Labels

Anytime someone asks me what I'm wearing or where I got it, I automatically say the designers name. I became what my mom called a 'label whore', obsessed with name brands and designers. I wouldn't even consider buying something that wasn't upwards of $100.
I realize how pretentious this sounds and how insane that really is. I spent all the money I made over the summer which was a little more than $2000 in less than 5 months. I think I really have a major problem.
It's not like I was even buying stupid things I didn't need or spending a ton of money on things that weren't quality, but I literally spent all my money on high fashion items.
I bought a coat for my mom for $600 a bathing suit for myself for $100 while also dropping near $300 at Vineyard Vines. That's $1000. That's A LOT of money.
I could have been driving to school by now with my new car that I don't have because I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SAVE MONEY. With the amount of money I made over the summer if I had saved it, I  really would have bought myself a car and now I hate myself because even though I have lots of cute clothes and an overflowing closet, I do not have a car.
This summer when I work I have decided I'm going to save all my money. If I see something I like I'm going to wait at least 2 months before buying it to make sure I really want it. This way I won't just buy everything I see and waste all my money again. I have for sure learned my lesson about spending and saving these past few months.
Just because you see something you think you love, you should ask yourself if you really need it and if it will actually fit in your closet. It feels a lot better to save money and look at your bank statement to find that there actually is money in your account than to look in your closet and see your money hanging up.

January Favorites

This 'One Line A Day' book I got for Christmas after seeing one of my favorite bloggers, Carly Cristman use this book. It's a really cute way to keep track of the little things that happen throughout the day that made you laugh or smile. It also makes a really great gift for a friend and I ended up buying a few of these to give away I loved them so much.
The Naked palette by Urban Decay is great, but its pretty expensive when you aren't really into makeup. This particular dupe of the Naked palette is exactly what i wanted and needed for the month of January which included me going to lots of different events and parties. There really is a color in here for every skin tone and also for every event, whether formal or casual.
Dirty Rush by Taylor Bell is a book I saw advertised on TSM which is a blog I read daily. It is absolutely hilarious and I had to have read it three times already. I recommend it for anyone looking for a light and fun read, but I would say it is R rated.
This white knit circle scarf I have honestly had in my closet for years but this January it made it's comeback. I love wearing it with my Barbour jacket or pairing it with a sweater or vest. The temperatures this January in New England have been crazy cold and I honestly don't think I've taken this off the whole month (oops).
Along with that scarf, my bean boots have really been on my feet the whole month. They go with everything I own and walking through the snow and slush just would not work out with any other shoes I own. I also have fleece liners in mine to make them extra warm. My Longchamp large tote has been great during midterms since I don't really need to bring a backpack and this tote fits everything I need in it!

Triangl Swimwear

Normally I wouldn’t spend a hundred dollars on a bathing suit, but for Triangl I made an exception. I fell in love with these bathing suits that are plastered all over tumblr in the summer but I couldn’t justify spending that much money. After Christmas I caved and bought one from their new collection. The Poppy in the color blue crush was screaming my name and I just had to have it.
The quality of these suits is amazing. They are structured so well and are even beautifully packaged in a black box with Triangl printed on it for easy storing. You do have to be careful and not fold it or it will crease. I used my Triangl for the first time on a hot tub with my friends and the suit was perfect. It did however take a bit longer to dry, but that’s because the neoprene is so thick.
I would for sure buy another Triangl bathing suit. I cant wait to spend all summer wearing mine at the beach, I’ll just have to see if it can withstand the test of surfing!

Defining your style

I love all aspects of fashion and while I do have specific likes and dislikes, I don’t believe you need to have one specific style. Over Christmas break I experimented with tribal printed leggings, doc martens and crop tops when I was going out to parties or getting coffee with friends home from college. I also browsed stores like Nasty Gal and Urban Outfitters.
I ended up at a New Years Eve party in a crop top and a long tribal printed cardigan and I could not have loved my look more. When you put on an outfit you get a confidence boost especially when you really love the way you look and it gives you the opportunity to go out and in a sense be someone else for the night.

That’s exactly what I did over break and I couldn’t have loved going out of my comfort zone more. It made me want to incorporate those different pieces and styles into my everyday wear which is also exactly what I plan on doing.

Barbour

Barbour hasn’t disappointed me yet, and this Christmas was no different. My last gift I opened on Christmas was a classic 'beadnell' Barbour jacket in the color olive.
I fell in love as soon as I put it on and it just gets better with every use. Its not only well made but its kept me warm in the recent below 0 temperatures.
The color goes great with everything in my closet as well. I love how the inside is lined with tartan, it makes rolling the sleeves up just once look really cute. I definitely suggest investing in one of these coats because they are so worth the money.

Pop your collar?

Ever since the '80's its been the preppy thing to do to pop your collar. In the summer, when your sailing, the best way to prevent sunburn is to pop you collar. This look with sailors caught on with kids in prep schools and members of country clubs and I couldn't love the look of it more.
It's not supposed to be perfect, but kind of messy in a styled way.
Personally, I say yes, pop your collar.
